ANALISIS PENGARUH FRAKSI VOLUME SERAT TERHADAP DENSITAS, KEKUATAN BENDING DAN KEKUATAN TEKAN KOMPOSIT SANDWICH BERINTI OPENED CELL FOAM BAMBU BERKULIT KAYU LAPIS

Sandwich composites are widely used in the automotive industry, property, electronics and shipbuilding. Especially for industrial property sandwich composites can be used as a wall or a building lantain. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of bamboo fiber volume fraction on the density, compressive strength and bending strength of the composite material foam core sandwich with bamboo.
The main ingredient of this study is the bamboo fiber, unsaturated polyester resin, hardener, and plywood. This experiment is testing the density (ASTM C 271), bending (ASTM C 393), press the edges (ASTM C 364-99), and press the thickness direction (ASTM C 365-05). Manufacture of composite sandwich is done by creating a composite core of bamboo fiber and matrix resin by the method of random fibers, which are then glued to the core of the skin (plywood) that has been cut to size. The emphasis that between core and skin experiencing maximum adhesion, then allowed to stand for 24 hours. The specimens were cut according to the size of the test specimen density, bending, press the edges and press the thickness direction. The volume fraction of the fiber used was 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% with a fiber length of 10 mm.
Results from the study showed that the greater the volume fraction is used, the greater density. The highest density at the fiber volume fraction of 25% amounting to 0.64 g / cm3. The greater the volume fraction of fiber resulted in increased bending strength of fiber volume fraction of 10% -20%, but the fiber volume fraction of 25% decreased 8.28%. The maximum bending strength contained in fiber volume fraction of 20% amounting to 28.26 MPa. The greater the volume fraction of the fiber composite sandwich cavity on the smaller the resulting composite into a solid. The compressive strength and compressive strength edge thickness direction increases with fiber volume fraction. But at the edge of the pressure tests, a small increase in the compressive strength edge after 20% fiber volume fraction of 1.4%. The compressive strength of the maximum edge located on the fiber volume fraction of 25% amounting to 7.23 MPa. The compressive strength of the maximum thickness direction contained in the fiber volume fraction of 25% amounting to 25.17 MPa.
