PENGARUH KONFIGURASI KOMPOSIT HYBRID FIBERGLASS-BAMBU/POLYESTER TAK JENUH TERHADAP SIFAT BENDING

Composite reinforcing materials can be both
natural fibers and synthesis fibers. However, with the
tightening of environmental issues where materials must
be degraded naturally and can be recycled, the use of
natural fibers for the manufacture of composites is
increasingly in demand. For this reason, the use of
synthetic fibers and natural fibers can be a solution. This
study aims to determine the influence of unsaturated
fiberglass-bamboo/polyester hybrid composite
configurations on their bending properties.
The material used is bamboo fiber with length of
5 mm, random fiberglass and woven with a dimension of
30 cm x 30 cm.n Configuration of composites was
FBFBFBF, BFBFBFB, 2B3F2B, 2F3B2F, 3B, 6F
(F=Fiberglass, B=Bamboo). The matrix was unsaturated
polyester resin. Vacuum infusion molds techniques was
used to manufacture composites. Bending specimens
and testing procedures refer to the ASTM D790
standard.
The results of this study show that the more
random and woven fiberglass layers contained in the
configuration provide higher strength. The bending
strength and elastic modulus on random and woven
fiberglass are higher compared to the bending strength
of bamboo fiber composites. Configurations with the
same number of random fiberglass/bamboo layers and
woven but the different layouts have an effect on the
strength of a composite. Meanwhile, hybrid composites
using a random fiberglass layer provide higher strength
than woven fiberglass
